Edwards \nIn Partnership with Hibernian Hall\nJanuary 23 – February 23\, 2025 \n Actors’ Shakespeare Project is thrilled to continue and deepen our dedication to August Wilson’s American Century Cycle with one of his most celebrated titles: The Piano Lesson. \nTensions are crackling under the floorboards of Doaker Charles’ household when his fast-talking nephew Boy Willie blows in from Mississippi with a scheme to set their descendants up for generations. The plan: sell the family’s ornate antique piano carved by an enslaved ancestor and use it to buy the land where his ancestors were enslaved. But half of the piano also belongs to Berniece\, who refuses to let her brother pawn off the heirloom. As the siblings dig in their heels\, they will search deeper into their lineage and uncover shocking revelations that will change them both forever. \nWinner of the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a 1990 Tony Award Nominee for Best Play\, August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson is an explosive and incisive inquiry into the struggle between what we owe to our past and how we build our future. \nRUN TIME: Two hours and forty-five minutes\, including one intermission. \nTHURSDAY\, JANUARY 23RD TO SUNDAY\, FEBRUARY 23RD\, 2025\n\n\nBUY TICKETS AND SEE SHOWTIMES HERE \nLEARN MORE HERE URL:https://www.madison-park.org/event/actors-shakespeare-project-presents-august-wilsons-the-piano-lesson/ LOCATION:Hibernian Hall CATEGORIES:Arts & Culture,Hibernian Hall ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.madison-park.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/ClientFile550652.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20241214T160000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20241214T193000 DTSTAMP:20260206T020655 CREATED:20241204T182725Z LAST-MODIFIED:20241204T182725Z UID:10001107-1734192000-1734204600@www.madison-park.org SUMMARY:RoxFilm Holiday Screening: Jingle Jangle – A Christmas Journey DESCRIPTION: RoxFilm Holiday Screening: Jingle Jangle – A Christmas Journey\nSaturday\, December 14\, 2024\n4:00–5:00 PM: Food\, Fun\, and Treats\n5:00–7:30 PM: Movie Screening\nHibernian Hall\n184 Dudley St\, Roxbury\, MA\nStart a new holiday tradition with RoxFilm! In the wake of the police killing of George Floyd\, Americans of all backgrounds joined together in historic demonstrations in the streets\, discussions in the workplace\, and conversations at home about the financial gaps that remain between white and Black Americans. This deeply investigated book follows the lives of seven Black Americans of different economic levels\, ages and professions during the three years following this period of racial reckoning. \nDrawing on intimate interviews with these individuals—three of whom are well known and four of whom most readers will learn about for the first time in the book—the authors bring data\, research and history to life. Fifteen Cents on the Dollar shows the scores of set-backs that have held the Black-white wealth gap in place—from enslavement to redlining to banking discrimination—and ultimately\, the set-backs that occurred in the mid-2020s as the push for racial equity became a polarized political debate. \nFifteen Cents on the Dollar is a comprehensive\, deeply human look at Black-white wealth-gap history\, told through the lives Black Americans as well as through the development of a new bank intended to help close the Black-white wealth gap. Seasoned journalist-academics Louise Story and Ebony Reed provide crucial insights on American economic equity\, Black business ownership\, and political and business practices that leave Black Americans behind. In chronicling how these staggering injustices came to be\, they show how and why so little progress on the wealth gap has been made and provide insights Americans should consider if they want lasting change. \nVisit www.15cents.info for more information on the book. Louise and Ebony jointly teach an MBA class on racial wealth gaps at The Yale School of Management. \n  \n \nAbout the authors/moderators\nLouise and Ebony jointly teach an MBA class on racial wealth gaps at The Yale School of Management.\nLouise Story\nLouise is a prize-winning investigative journalist who spent more than 15 years at the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal\, where she was the top masthead editor running coverage strategy.
